In 2018, my then 17 year old son Christian started to ride his bike. His attention quickly turned to competitive riding, with the goal of racing the following year. It was refreshing to see seasoned local riders from various teams and levels share insight with him and express a sense of mentorship that not only motivated him to continue to train, but reinforced the lessons I was already sharing with him. This communal sense of cycling inspired me to create a program that will educate junior cyclists in cycling specific skills such as bike handling, tactics and nutrition. By providing them with individualized structured training the goal is to promote discipline in addition to an appreciation for hard work and dedication. Resources have been set aside for two junior athletes to receive a training sponsorship for 2020. In addition The Junior Program will also be available to all other interested Juniors at a nominal $100 monthly fee.
